I think we all need to take a minute and be thankful for how great this sub-blog is in the Gawker universe. Last night I was able to have a spirited discussion on current Cadillac gauges. Cadillac gauges who in their right minds would want to talk about the gauges on a Cadillac? Car people thats who. On this wonderful little site of ours we can escape reality and enjoy talking about one of our favorite passions on a daily basis. Not only is it fun and lighthearted but it can be and often is thought provoking and genuinely good conversations. I just wanted to remind everyone how much you rock and how great this site it.
Oh yeah and by the way it was my Oppo-versary a few weeks back. Thanks for a great year everyone. I have learned more about my passion in the last year here than Top Gear could ever teach me. I am looking forward to the next year!
Earthrise for your time!

We've got our faults, our thorns...if you will...but its still the best and most excellent place to chat about cars in the internet there is. Bar none.

The roommate and I got into an hour long discussion 2 days ago about the kind of world we would have had to have where the 1955 Lincoln Indianapolis was an actual production car instead of just a concept.
We decided it was a world where:
Russia was forced back to Moscow by Allied forces after the fall of Germany, where they signed an unconditional surrender in 1947.
Germany became a British state.
The Volkswagen factory, instead of being offered to Henry Ford, was instead purchased by the Austin Motor company.
The jet engine was not invented during the course of war, instead coming out in the early 1950's. Due to the late arrival, the "jet age" of automobiles never happens. Instead, cars continue to take styling cues and ideas from propeller-driven aircraft.
With Britain having Germany under their rule and with the rebuilding effort for Russia, the USA does not become the sole dominant superpower on the planet - the role is shared with Britain.
With British engineering improved by German engineers and scientists, British cars are at a higher level of quality and are seen more on American roads.
The Buick division is shut down in 1949.
That is what allowed this to seem like a logical product of its world.

I can agree with you except my biggest concern is the 1955 Lincoln take cues from jet age styling therefore the jet powered airplane needed to be developed during the war.

I hesitated posting that specific photo because of the wheels. But they are growing on me like a disease. Strange considering I usually don't like custom wheels.

There's a lot of prop plane in it too, and in this world in 1955 the jet engine would've existed for about 4 years.

These look a lot like corvette wheels.

I didn't notice that before you are correct! Yet somehow I still enjoy them.

No complaint, they struck me as very familiar. The rear wheels are pretty interesting how they stretched them out.

I agree. I do with they were more of a satin than a chrome.

It might look better if the car was black to set off the chrome
